Aside from its “role” in the movie “Top Gun”, the Graves House is important architecturally as the last oceanfront Folk Victorian cottage in San Diego County. Also known as the Graves House, the bright blue Victorian-style home was featured in the 1986 action film and now fans will find it in an unexpected place-- just up the street from its original location. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new hotels were held in February of 2019.

Two people inside, including as a 17-year-old, were detained as persons of interest. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said the fallen officers were "heroes that were just simply trying to keep our community safe." One of the wounded officers was in critical condition, officials said at a news briefing Monday afternoon. Members of the public who oppose the bill harangued Republican lawmakers after the vote, leading House Speaker Cameron Sexton to order the galleries cleared. "Suicide affects everyone. It doesn't matter your age, race or gender," Emhoff said.
The Top Gun House Is Now a Stylish Restaurant—See Inside
The Victorian cottage in Oceanside featured in the popular 1986 movie “Top Gun” was moved to a permanent new home at the Oceanside Beach Resort on Thursday. Building the bar used in the film seemed like a pretty straightforward challenge for the crew — but they had a bit of bad luck with their chosen spot on the sand. An aviation-themed retro pie shop called "The High Pie" has just opened in the newly-renovated "Top Gun" House and it held its grand opening on Saturday with an aerial flyover perfectly fitting for its theme. "I grew up with my dad watching the 'Top Gun' movie, so when we found out they had restored the house, I wanted to come and see it," Bautista said. It was just down the street before its relocation to this spot in 2019. On Thursday, movie fans lined up outside the door, waiting to get a behind-the-scenes look, but this wasn't where we saw the action between Goose and Maverick.

The Graves house was featured in one scene of the film as the home of Cruise’s onscreen girlfriend, played by actress Kelly McGillis. For several years, Lazar said she wanted to break into the restaurant business in San Diego, but she struggled to find the right space. Malkin Properties, the Connecticut-based global retail investment company that built the Mission Pacific Hotel and the adjacent Seabird Resort, which both opened in 2021. Founder Scott Malkin is a fan of “Top Gun,” so as part of the development deal for the 2.75-acre oceanfront property he offered to give the peripatetic Top Gun House a place to stay and a facelift.
Filming took place over about eight weeks and was predominantly done on North Island Naval Air Station, according to a San Diego city official. Unfortunately the bar was seriously damaged by fire in 2008 and some irreplaceable memorablia was lost, but it's since been restored to its former glory. The movie is set in San Diego, home of the 11th Naval District HQ, one of the world’s largest navy bases, on Route 5, 120 miles south of Los Angeles. Well, ‘TOPGUN’ base (it’s actually one word), is Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.
Instead of knocking down the historic home -- which would have caused outrage amongst many San Diegans -- the house was towed just up the street where it became part of the Mission Pacific Hotel with a perfect view of the Pacific Ocean. Along with a heavy dose of movie mementos, the pie house is home to the HIGH-Pie signature hand pie, created by chef and restauranteur Tara Lazar of F10 Hospitality. The hand pies are filled with seasonal, locally-sourced apples or cherries.
Police previously described the incident as an "active situation" and said a SWAT team was on scene. A shelter-in-place order was lifted after the house was cleared, police said. Marshals task force -- one of them, authorities said, was a deputy marshal. The student protests -- some of which have turned into around-the-clock encampments -- have erupted throughout the nation following arrests and student removals at Columbia University in New York City. Students at schools including Yale University, New York University, Harvard University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Southern California and more have launched protests. Esmailian has been featured on various power lists for Variety and other music publications, and frequently posts photos of himself and his home on social media.
There are also dipping sauces and coffee, but the main attraction is the house itself. With two new beautiful hotels, Oceanside has regained or fulfilled its resort status, envisioned so many years ago by our founder Andrew Jackson Myers. The careful restoration of the historic Graves House, aka the “Top Gun” house is a crowning jewel on the oceanfront.
This oceanfront cottage was their vacation home where they would spend their summers. Angeline Morgan later acquired the home and owned it for over 40 years. Twice the organization helped to hoist the sagging porches, had it painted and erected a large sign to inform passersby about the historical significance of the house and to assure those concerned that the house would be restored. In 2009 a fence was put up around the property, which was necessary to protect the house from further intentional damage. For over 90 years the house had been painted in dark hues, which is discernible even when viewing the house in black and white photos.
As soon as he is on the street, he starts his motorcycle and speeds away. A few years after filming, the late 19th-century house was eventually totally abandoned. The plot of land was then purchased by some investors to build new, modern apartment buildings.
The pies are served on a popsicle stick with optional dipping sauces including salted caramel and lemon curd. The shop also sells coffee and other drinks and souvenir T-shirts and hats. In 1985 the Regos were contacted by Paramount Pictures looking for a beach cottage for a film location. Paramount rented the house (including the property at 112 First Street) in June for two weeks. The crew prepped the perimeter of the property by removing parking and street signs and covering the curbs with sand. The movie being filmed was “Top Gun”, which became a blockbuster upon its release in 1986.
Maverick upon returning to “North Island,” stops his motorcycle under a miniature airplane placed at the entrance to Naval Air Station North Island not far from the visitors’ parking lot (Stockdale Blvd, Coronado, San Diego). Maverick, head of a squadron of fighter pilots, tries to get them to team build by playing a football game on the beach. The beach where the scene was filmed is Breakers Beach in San Diego, just north of the more famous Coronado Beach. The bright-blue house was built as a vacation home in 1887 for Dr. Henry Graves. It was moved from its original location in 2020 when a mid-rise beach resort took over the land it previously sat on.
Republican legislators quickly cast aside his push to keep guns away from people deemed a danger to themselves or others. "The bravery of our officers that responded to the scene, knowing that they're going into gunfire is what I've been saying for many years, is in the face of danger. our people step up," Jennings said. Just before 5 p.m., about three hours after police said there had been a shooting, police said, "at least one shooting suspect was located deceased at the residence after clearing the scene."
To tell the story of the “Top Gun” house, we need to go back to the earliest days of Oceanside. Andrew Jackson Myers, a rancher in the San Luis Rey Valley, noted that a railroad line had just been completed Los Angeles to San Diego (by way of Riverside) along the Pacific coastline. Myers then applied for and received a land grant of 160 acres in 1883. The trains would travel directly over Myers’ new land grant making his property very valuable. Officials believe two people fired at at law enforcement, Jennings said.
Charles Burlock was appointed deputy constable in 1897 by Benjamin Franklin Hubbert. Burlock married Lilian Wilcox in 1899 and moved to San Diego where he was the manager of the San Diego Gold Mining and Milling Company. F. Anderson, and it was then transferred to Southwestern Realty in 1910. But even as late as 1914, locals continued to refer to the house at the “Graves’ cottage” because of its longtime association with Dr. and Mrs. Graves. Returning to Hiawatha, Graves was appointed postmaster in1875 and operated a drugstore.
